Lincoln/Belmont/Ashland TIF

Designation: 1994    Expiration: 2018

Lake View's Lincoln/Belmont/Ashland TIF surrounds the northern portion of what for many years was one of Chicago's premier neighborhood shopping districts. At the time of its designation, the district was characterized by the growing obsolescence of area retail properties and vacancies associated with the 1987 closure of Wieboldt's department store, the commercial district's focal point. The original goal of the nine-acre TIF is to promote the commercial, residential and mixed-use redevelopment of the Wieboldt's complex and adjacent properties. Other priorities include the creation of housing, parking, and institutional development within the district.
