North Branch (South) TIF

Designation: 1998    Expiration: 2022

The 287-acre North Branch (South) TIF is characterized by active industrial facilities, vacant and underutilized industrial properties, commercial and retail sites, and blocks containing residential uses. Located within the West Town, Near North Side and Lincoln Park communities, the TIF was created to reinforce employment opportunities in the North Branch Industrial Corridor by supporting private investment in new industrial projects and by assisting efforts that redevelop existing buildings for new industrial purposes. It is designed to help eliminate unnecessary streets, alleys and railroad right-of-ways and to protect existing industrial land by creating buffers and transitional areas near residential neighbors. Priorities include the reconstruction of the North Avenue bridge to accommodate four lanes of traffic, seawall improvements along the Chicago River, and numerous infrastructure improvements that improve access and circulation.
