Northwest Industrial Corridor TIF

Designation: 1998    Expiration: 2034*

Located within West Garfield Park community, the Northwest Industrial Corridor TIF contains mostly industrial land uses adjacent to railroad lines operated by the Chicago & Northwestern, Soo, and Belt Line railways. While the area has served industrial users for more than a century, the closure of several large manufacturers in recent decades has had a negative impact on the corridor and resulted in large parcels of underutilized land. The 1,200-acre TIF is intended to re-establish the area as modern industrial center by providing resources that foster its coordinated and comprehensive redevelopment. Priorities include the assembly of land of suitable size and shape for new development projects, the rehabilitation of existing structures for continued industrial uses, and to foster commercial projects at select locations that benefit surrounding residential areas. Funds are also targeted for public works improvements, job training, and eligible construction costs.
