Western/Ogden TIF

Designation: 1998 Expiration: 2034*

Encompassing 754 acres within the Lower West Side and Near West Side communities, the Western/Ogden TIF district has roughly the same boundaries as the Western/Ogden Industrial Corridor and a portion of the Illinois Medical District. Characterized by older industrial buildings in various states of repair, a mix of old and new institutional properties, vacant land, and numerous railroad holdings, the district is intended to foster a wide range of job-generating business development and investment projects. The bulk of increment from the district is targeted for building rehabilitation costs, environmental remediation activities, property assembly efforts, and public works upgrades involving streets and utilities. Job training programs and certain interest costs are also supported by the TIF.
