Mayor-elect Emanuel and the City's Next Leaders Participate in Chicago's Citywide Day of Service

Previously posted on May 14, 2011

This morning Mayor-elect Emanuel and members of the City’s next leadership teams will participate in Chicago’s citywide Day of Service. They will join City Clerk-elect Susana Mendoza and Treasurer Stephanie Neely serving neighbors across Chicago, bringing our city together block by block and community by community.

“Chicago’s parks and gardens, playgrounds and waterfronts belong to all of us,” said Emanuel. “The leaders in my administration all agree: it's our responsibility to help keep Chicago safe and clean. Working together, we can make sure that years from now our children and grandchildren will call this world-class city home.”

Incoming City leaders will participate in service projects across the city:

  • The Mayor-elect’s appointee to be Commissioner of the Human Relations Department, Mona Noriega, will volunteer at Bubbly Creek-Riverside Shopping Center.
  • David Reynolds, who will serve as Commissioner of General Services, will work in Gompers Park North.
  • The next Deputy Commissioner of Human Resources, Rebecca Strisko, will roll up her sleeves at the Thillen Nature Trail.
  • The city’s next Chief Information Officer, Jason DeHaan, will stop at the Bill Jarvis Migratory Bird Sanctuary to work side-by-side with Bechara Choucair, the incoming Commissioner of Public Health.
  • Amer Ahmad, who will be the next Comptroller, will join neighbors to clean up the 18th Street/Ping Tom Park.
  • Evelyn Diaz, who will lead the Department of Family and Support Services, will spend the morning at Lathrop Homes working in the Jimmy Thomas Nature Center.
  • Felicia Davis, named First Deputy Chief of Staff for Public Safety, will help community members clean up the site of a future school.
