Statement from Mayor Rahm Emanuel on Ford Motor Company Bringing 1100 Jobs and $200 Million in Capital Investment to Chicago

Mayor's Press Office    312.744.3334

I congratulate Ford and the United Auto Workers for reaching an agreement that will put 12,000 Americans to work and invest more than $6.2 billion in infrastructure and factories across the country. I am especially pleased with Ford's commitment to bring 1,100 jobs to the hard working residents of Chicago next spring and invest nearly $200 million in capital in Chicago - a deal negotiated by Deputy Mayor Mark Angelson and the Mayor's Economic Council.  In my conversations with Alan Mulally and Mark Fields over the past few months they noted that the investment we are making in Chicago's infrastructure was a key factor in choosing Chicago as the place to bring close to ten percent of the jobs created in this agreement.  This is a victory for Ford, a victory for workers and a victory for Chicago. It will not only create new jobs and unleash new prosperity in Chicago but the company's commitment to manufacture fuel-efficient cars and trucks will help pave the way towards a more energy-independent future.
