Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Superintendent Garry McCarthy will join Chicago police officers, neighborhood residents, local organizations and community leaders in participating in the 30th annual “National Night Out” with community events in every police district. 

“We all have a role to play in the safety of our city, and National Night Out is a great example of the many ways we can come together to strengthen our neighborhoods,” said Mayor Emanuel. “These events across the city reinforce the positive relationship between the Chicago Police Department and the communities it serves.”

Chicago’s 22 police districts each have events planned for Tuesday, August 6 that will bring the police and the community together for an evening of partnership building, information sharing and entertainment.

"Reducing crime and violence over the long-term requires both enforcement and community-based solutions,” said Superintendent McCarthy. “Through our partnership with communities and events like National Night Out, along with the work our officers do each day, is an important aspect of our comprehensive policing strategy and a key part of the city’s reduction in violence and crime.”

Mayor Emanuel will join residents of the 10th district at the Douglas Park Boat House located at 1401 S. Sacramento at 5 p.m.

Superintendent McCarthy will participate in National Night Out events in the 7th district at Lindblom Park at 6054 S. Damen at 5 p.m.

Events planned by Chicago Police districts include anti-violence rallies, community bicycle rides, outdoor movies, concerts and outdoor roll calls.  Police and residents will have cook-outs and enjoy entertainment, while children take part in games and contests at the various locations.  Many districts are planning demonstrations of department resources including the Mounted Unit and Canine Unit.

Mayor Emanuel and Superintendent McCarthy have announced a number of initiatives to continue building a strong partnership between police and residents in recent weeks, including a nine-week educational program for residents, and a series of new ways in which residents can communicate with police.

“National Night Out” was introduced in 1984 in an effort to increase community participation in crime prevention initiatives, and send a message to criminals that drugs and violence will not be tolerated in communities.  The initiative was conceived of by the National Association of Town Watch, a non-profit crime prevention organization that works with community groups and law enforcement agencies throughout the country.

1st (Central) District:  Dearborn Park, 865 S. Park Terrace at 6 pm.  Events include food, raffle, bicycle safety inspections and a walk through the neighborhood to Cotton Tail Park.

2nd (Wentworth) District:  Taylor Park, 4800 S. State from 5-8 pm.  Events include music, hair cuts, school supply giveaways and more.

3rd (Grand Crossing) District:  Meyering Park, 7140 S. King Dr. from 5-7 pm.  Events include a safety equipment giveaway and other informational resources.

4th (South Chicago District:  Calumet Park, 9801 S. Avenue G, from 3-7 pm.  Events include live DJ’s, face painting, health information and screenings and more.

5th (Calumet) District:  Kroc Center, 1250 W. 119th St. from 4-8 pm.  CPD Mounted and K-9 units will be in attendance among other events.

6th (Gresham) District:  March for Peace.  From 7811 S. State, step-off at 1:30, march to Foster Park, 1440 W. 84th St., where events and activities take place from 2-6 pm.

7th (Englewood) District:  Lindblom Park, 6054 S. Damen from 3 pm to Sundown.  Events include praise dancers, face painting and health and safety vendors.

8th (Chicago Lawn) District:  West Lawn Park, 4233 W. 65th St. at 6 pm.  Neighbors join together for rally against crime and drugs.  Also, hot dogs and Brian the balloon man.

9th (Deering) District:  9th District Station, 3120 S. Halsted St. from 5:30-8 pm.  Refreshments, music, games, dancing and more

10th (Ogden) District:  Douglas Park Boat House, 1401 S. Sacramento at 5 pm.  Refreshments will be provided.

11th (Harrision) District:  Garfield Park, 100 N. Central Park from 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm.

12th (Near West) District:  12th District Station, 1412 S. Blue Island from 5-8 pm.  Events include a car show, live music and the Jessie White Tumblers.

14th (Shakespeare) District:  14th District Station, 2150 N. California from 5-8:30 pm.  Featuring a DJ, petting zoo, bingo for seniors and more.

15th (Austin) District:  Moore Park, 5055 W. Adams from 6-8 pm.  Refreshments, giveaways and entertainment.

16th (Jefferson Park) District:  Norwood Park, 5801 N. Natoma from 5-9 pm.  Events include an antique car show, blood drive and family swim.

17th (Albany Park) District:  17th District Station, 4651 N. Pulaski from 5-7 pm.  Events include entertainment, music and children’s games.

18th (Near North) District:  18th District Station, 1160 N. Larrabee from 2-9:30.  Events include a book fair, BBQ, and a movie at 7:30 pm.

19th (Town Hall) District:  Broncho Billy Playlot, 4437 N. Magnolia from 6-8 pm.  Police and neighbors will participate in a community cook-out.

20th (Lincoln) District:  Buttercup Playlot, 4901 N. Sheridan at 6 pm.  Tai Chi, yoga and zumba followed by a cook-out and movie in the park.

22nd (Morgan Park) District:  22nd District Station, 1900 W. Monterey from  5-9 pm.  Prayer vigil and balloon release, followed by food, games and raffle.

24th (Rogers Park) District:  Nine Separate locations; One event on each of the District’s nine beats. Call the Office of News Affairs for times and locations.

25th (Grand Central) District:  25th District Station, 5555 W. Grand from 6-8 pm.  Events include music, entertainment, guest speakers, an awards ceremony and more.
