Mayor Rahm Emanuel today announced the schedule for the upcoming inauguration weekend. The swearing in on Monday, May 18, will be preceded by a citywide day of community service on Saturday, May 16, and arts in the parks on Sunday, May 17. The inaugural ceremony will be followed by a public open house at the Mayor’s office. Information on all the events, and access to inaugural tickets and service opportunities can be found at http://www.cic2015.org.

“The inauguration is a time to reflect on the hard work we’ve done, but also to look ahead to the opportunities we have as a city,” said Mayor Emanuel. “I look forward to joining Chicagoans for a weekend of activities, including opportunities for community service and entertainment in neighborhoods across the City, and then sharing my thoughts on how we can continue to come together to make our City the best place to get a great public education, find a good-paying job, and raise a family.”

The inaugural weekend will kick off with a Day of Service on Saturday, May 16, at locations in all 50 wards. Chicagoans will be able to choose from projects ranging from painting a school to cleaning a park or vacant lot. Specific projects will be available on the inauguration website this week.
On Sunday, May 17, the City and Chicago Park District will launch the third annual “Night Out In The Parks” arts programming in parks across the city. A full schedule of theatre, dance and other events will be available on the inauguration website this week.

The inauguration, which includes the swearing in of the Mayor, City Clerk Susana Mendoza, City Treasurer Kurt Summers and all 50 members of the City Council, will be held at The Chicago Theatre, 175 North State Street, at 10:30 am on Monday, May 18. Tickets are available to the public on the inauguration website.

Following the swearing in, Mayor Emanuel and his wife, Amy Rule, will host a public open house from 2-4 pm at his office in City Hall, 121 N. LaSalle St., on the 5th Floor.

"Inauguration day is an opportunity to reflect on the trust and faith that the people of our great city have given us as public servants," said Clerk Mendoza. "We face many challenges, but I look forward to working with the Mayor, members of the City Council, and with our greatest asset - Chicagoans - to overcome those challenges and continue making Chicago the greatest city in the world."

“The inauguration is about the people of Chicago and the opportunity to look toward the brighter future we can create together for every neighborhood in this city,” said Treasurer Summers. “I am honored to join our newly elected leaders as we work to transform the Treasurer's Office by investing in and being accountable to the residents of Chicago like never before.”
