CHICAGO – Today, the Chicago Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection (BACP) announced the Chi Food Truck Fest, the long-standing commercial corridor activation in the Loop, is back for a ninth season of culinary delights. The much-anticipated fest will return to Daley Plaza, 50 W. Washington Street every Friday beginning May 17 through October 4 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  The fest celebrates the city’s rich and diverse culinary culture, with a variety of food offerings for Chicago residents and visitors. For more information, visit Chicago.gov/FoodTruckFest.

“The Chi Food Truck Fest ignites economic activity in Chicago’s central business district and unites a city known for multiple flavors of culinary excellence,” said Mayor Brandon Johnson. “It is one of the best opportunities we have for residents to sample an eclectic array of local food favorites while supporting our small business owners.”

“I’m thrilled to welcome back the Chi Food Truck Fest and look forward to many food favorites from across the city being available at the fest,” said BACP Commissioner Kenneth J. Meyer. “Our city has incredible culinary talent, and this fest offers the opportunity for food truck operators to show while creating unforgettable memories for attendees.”

For nine years, the fest has provided an opportunity to escape the ordinary lunch and enjoy the lakefront breeze against backdrop of a Chicago landmark, the Chicago Picasso sculpture. From deli sandwiches to tacos, the food trucks roll onto Daley Plaza offering local food favorites. Additionally, the fest facilitates food tourism as a commercial corridor activation attracting lunchtime crowds from downtown workers to summertime visitors.

BACP sponsors and organizes the Chicago Food Truck Festival. Participating food trucks must be properly licensed by the City of Chicago as a mobile food vehicle. Food truck operators interested in participating in this year’s fest need to submit a completed application. To show support for licensed food truck operators, which are small businesses, BACP has eliminated the fest participation fee. Application and additional information may be found by visiting Chicago.gov/FoodTruckFest.
