The City of Chicago Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection (BACP) through the Small Business Center (SBC) is hosting the second of five small business expos on Saturday, April 30, 2016, from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M. with Azteca Foods Inc. Founder and President, Arthur Velasquez and Renee Velasquez Togher, as the keynote speakers at Arturo Velasquez Institute, 2800 S. Western Ave., Chicago.
The expo will offer entrepreneurs and business owners the opportunity to consult, network and gather information from more than 40 government and non-profit agencies including the Chicago Department of Procurement Services, the Illinois Attorney General, and the Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. The goal is to provide expert advice to small business owners on topics such as licensing, financing and business planning.
“Mayor Emanuel’s administration is committed to bringing City Hall to Chicago’s neighborhoods and providing resources that benefit both employers and consumers,” BACP Commissioner Maria Guerra Lapacek said. “There's something for everyone at these expos; free makeovers, professional head shots, tax and legal clinic, consumer and financial help, free document shredding, and some of the best food trucks in all of Chicago!”
Immediately following the keynote speech there will be two free workshops that begin at noon and end at 1P.M.
Workshop 1: How to Start a Business (Entire workshop in Spanish)
Presented by: Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce
This workshop will focus on the best practices for entrepreneurship, finances, marketing, and team building. You will receive guidance in 4 key areas of business including business concept, customer relations, organization and operations.
Workshop 2: Access to Capital, Helping Your Business to Grow
Presented by: Fifth Third Bank and Resurrection Project
In order for businesses to grow capital is often needed but sometimes it isn’t always easy to come by. In this workshop you will learn about traditional and non-traditional credit sources as well as how to best prepare for when your company needs it most.
The ‘Small Business Center on the Road’ is a series of five free expos in neighborhoods throughout Chicago. The series is a partnership between the City of Chicago Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection (BACP), the Office of New Americans (ONA), Western Union, Fifth Third Bank and COUNTRY Financial®.
The expo is part of the Mayor’s agenda to support neighborhood businesses and economic development. It will also offer business consultants from the (SBC) to help attendees apply or renew for a business license and make an appointment for additional counseling at City Hall. In addition, the Center for Economic Progress will provide a free tax clinic and The Law Project will provide a free legal clinic with representatives offering 20-minute consultations. A one-hour networking session, hosted by City Treasurer Kurt Summers, will wrap up the expo from 1 P.M. to 2 P.M.
