Ventilation Bureau Inspectors inspect new and existing buildings to ensure proper ventilation and that all ventilation units comply with the building code. The Bureau performs 4 major types of inspections: periodic, license, complaint, and permit.

Periodic inspections occur once a year, primarily for nursing homes, hospitals, day care facilities, commercial buildings, and motor vehicle repair shops. There is a $50.00 minimum fee for the first 10,000 CFM (cubic feet per minute). For every thousand CFM over 10,000, the fee increases by $5.00.

The Ventilation Bureau also answers heat complaints for businesses. During heat season (September 15 through June 1), heat complaints are answered within 1 to 3 days.
