The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) today announced that the Kinzie St Bridge will be closed over the North Branch of the Chicago River for repairs beginning at 2:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 13 and the bridge will re-open to traffic on Monday, February 19 at 5:00 a.m., weather permitting.

Motorists traveling eastbound on Kinzie should turn southbound on Desplaines St. to cross the river eastbound at Lake St. and then continue eastbound on Wacker Dr., northbound on LaSalle St. to return to eastbound Kinzie. Westbound drivers should turn south on LaSalle St. to westbound Wacker Dr. to cross the river westbound at Lake St. and northbound on Desplaines St. back to Kinzie St.

Because Kinzie St. is part of a major bicycle commuting route, a separate detour has been established for bicycle riders coming into or leaving downtown via Milwaukee Ave.

People riding SE on Milwaukee and E on Hubbard should turn north on Desplaines St. to travel eastbound using the Grand Ave. bridge and then back to southbound Kingsbury east of the River. Riders heading westbound should travel north on Franklin St. to westbound Grand Ave and then south on Desplaines St. west of the River to Kingsbury.

Pedestrians will also have to use either the bridge at Grand Ave. or Lake St., since the bridge will be impassable during the repairs.
