The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) recently completed its revision of the Rules and Regulations for Construction in the Public Way. These regulations are a comprehensive manual which contractors, trades, utilities, agencies, and other professionals are required to comply with in order to obtain permits and to plan and perform construction in Chicago's Public Way.
The periodic revision of the regulations is part of CDOT’s ongoing effort to ensure safe and quality construction and restoration in the City of Chicago.
CDOT was pleased with the feedback it received for the proposed additions, changes, deletions, or clarifications provided from our solicitation of comments in June of 2015. Much of the feedback was incorporated into the final 2016 version.
These regulations become effective as of March 2, 2016.
A hard copy of the current CDOT Rules and Regulations is also available for review at the CDOT Permit Office located at City Hall Room 905.
