What We Do

Health Protection

We work to protect all Chicago residents from potential health threats like disease outbreaks and common illnesses like influenza. We provide safe and effective vaccines and educational information about how to prepare for and prevent health emergencies.

Communicable Disease Information: We identify sources of infectious diseases to stop transmission. Our goal is to ensure that all Chicago residents receive timely, preventive medical treatment and that medical providers are always informed of the latest health alerts and recommendations.

Food Protection: We work to ensure that food preparation in every restaurant, grocery store and food truck across the city is done a way that meets the health code. Learn about our efforts to keep all residents safe.

Immunization: Vaccines are a safe and highly effective method to protect yourself and your children from many diseases. Learn more about immunizations and how they can protect you.

Lead Poisoning Prevention and Healthy Homes: We are committed to ensuring that homes are safe from lead poisoning and other harmful pollutants. Learn more about how to help keep your family safe.

Mosquito Control: We monitor and reduce the risk of mosquito-borne diseases like West Nile Virus and Zika. Learn more about how you can keep yourself and others safe.

Prepare Chicago: Emergency Preparedness: Recognizing that a Local Response is the Best Response, learn how you can prepare your family for an emergency, how to work together as a community and how you can volunteer to help others.

Get the latest information about diseases that may impact you.
