The Learning Lab is a place to engage and experiment with aspects of all DCASE cultural programming. Watch archival footage of guests at past DCASE events on a vintage TV set, hear the sounds of upcoming DCASE music festivals, try your hand at mural making like Keith Haring on our chalk wall, touch pieces of the building to get a feel of the sumptuous materials used to create this golden age building and more!

After viewing the exhibition Odes and Tattoos in the Michigan Avenue Galleries, draft and draw your own tattoo designs, engaging with the global tattoo histories from ancient civilizations to influences on the contemporary art world.

 

Matthew CumminsMatthew Cummins shares da Vinci Geometry

Friday, December 7, 12-2pm 

Artist Matthew Cummins teaches about Leonardo da Vinci's lifelong fascination with geometry and will lead a hands-on building adventure that reproduces da Vinci's original illustrations in 3D.

Saturday, December 8, 1-3pm 

Using pencil, canvas board and acrylic painting, participants will recreate a painting of a Puerto Rican master, applying the same techniques used to create the installation PR Colonial Identity in the Michigan Avenue Galleries of the Chicago Cultural Center.
 

Meg Rock from Garfield Park Conservatory AllianceFern Room Goes East

Saturday, December 15, 1-3pm

Artist and scientific illustrator Meg Rock will lead participants through a hands-on exploration of ferns, looking at color, texture, shape and patterns of spores. Reflecting the process behind the exhibit Fern Room Goes East, participants will then be able to create fern fronds based on their observations, using paper and watercolors.

Contribute to this small traveling exhibition - Everyone's A Designer / Everyone's Design! Bring an object and its story from your home to share at this live storytelling event. The object can be anything that reflects how you turned your home into a space that reflects your own style, history, culture and community.

Artist Erin Cramer will share the creative process behind the making of the Flying Creatures, an installation of fantastical sculptures created by youth along the Wabash Corridor.

Project Osmosis guides young designers through the process of learning about and creating design. Drop in to meet some of the young designers who began their work this summer as Design Pioneers as they explore issues raised in the African American Design Exhibition.

What do the recycling symbol and the bicycle have in common? Chicago companies played a critical role in the development of both. Young artists, join us in creating art using upcycled bicycle tires donated by Blackstone Bicycle Works at Experimental Station in Woodlawn. Bring your work home, or leave it at CCC for display in the Learning Lab.
