Jefferson Park Station Area Master Plan

Updated Dec. 3, 2018

The Jefferson Park Station Area Plan is a Master Plan for the area surronding the Jefferson Park Transit Center on Chicago's Northwest Side. The Department of Planning and Development (DPD), in coordination with the 45th Ward, received a grant in April 2017 to complete the plan from the Regional Transportation Authority’s Community Planning Program.

Given the major planned investments by the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) into the existing Transit Center, this plan aims to leverage station and bus shelter improvements into broader benefits in the community, including:

  • Establishing a retail identity and destination for additional retail and neighborhood amenities
  • Improving access to Jefferson Park Station for all transit users and types of mobility
  • Increasing the supply of multi-family housing along arterial corridors in a balanced way that builds on existing community character
  • Maximizing private investment resulting from Transit Center improvements

A draft plan is available for public review. Recent revisions include the removal of repeated content, the removal of some anonymous quotes, stylistic edits to text, revisions of select diagrams, and the addition of an historic resources map and other reference materials. No substantive changes to the recommendations have been made.

Members of the public wishing to comment on the plan can do so in writing through Dec. 14 by emailing DPD@cityofchicago.org. The public is also invited to offer comment in person at the Dec. 20 meeting of the Chicago Plan Commission.

Community Engagement Activities

In an effort to engage the community throughout the planning process, DPD conducted 14 stakeholder meetings, 12 additional stakeholder interviews, three large community meetings, administered a survey, and attended four local events to gather public input. These efforts aim to ensure that plan recommendations reflect the goals and needs of the residents of Jefferson Park.

Below is a summary of these community engagement efforts. Further information, including project details, are available at AccessJeffPark.org.
