The Chicago Department of Planning and Development (DPD) requests the submission of proposals from development teams for the purchase and redevelopment of Jeffery Plaza, located on the southeast corner of 71st Street and Jeffery Boulevard in the South Shore community.
The nine-acre site is improved with parking and an L-shaped, one-story retail building with about 113,000 square feet of space. The main development objective is to bring a quality full-service grocer to the site or redevelop the site with a mix of uses.
The City does not own the site but has the authority to acquire it pursuant to an ordinance passed by City Council in December 2014. DPD seeks an experienced development team that will purchase and redevelop the property, using the City’s power of eminent domain if necessary.
The RFP seeks development teams experienced in the redevelopment of high quality, retail or mixed-use urban properties. DPD will review submitted responses and will choose the successful respondents for the RFP phase.
This redevelopment effort presents a unique opportunity to transform the site into a premier retail or mixed-use development anchored by a full service grocer. Approximatley 500,000 people live within five miles of the location and it's easily accessed by multiple public transportation routes.
