New and Improved MPEA/GTT Emblem Registration Process

Effective 7/1/2017, Chicago’s Ground Transportation Tax will be collected at O’Hare and Midway Airports for public vehicles not licensed pursuant to Chapter 9-112 or Chapter 9-114 of the Municipal Code. Those affected will be required to pay the Ground Transportation Tax at the airport once for each day the vehicle departs from any airport with a passenger.

City of Chicago Tax Account

All license holders/vehicle owners must have a valid City tax account number to begin the registration process. If you do not have a City tax account number visit our website at https://www.cityofchicago.org/city/en/depts/fin/supp_info/revenue/TaxDivisionFAQs.html or call 312-747-4747 for more information.

Beginning 6/1/2017, all license holders/vehicle owners must register their vehicles on the new user-friendly platform using their City tax account number. Once each vehicle has been registered and a method of payment has been added to your account, you will be able to print the emblem for each vehicle.

Before you begin, please ensure you have the following required information:

  • City of Chicago Tax Account Number
  • Web Tax PIN
  • Vehicle registration details for all vehicles: VIN, license plate number, vehicle capacity, vehicle year, vehicle make, vehicle model
  • Method of payment: credit card or bank account number and routing number
  • Valid, accessible e-mail address to activate your account
