Mayor Richard M. Daley today welcomed the 8th Annual Chicago Toy and Game Fair to Navy Pier – Festival Hall B, which showcased the newest and best toys and games available throughout the world. With over 125 exhibitors and interactive games and activities scheduled during the weekend, the Fair is the only event of its kind that is open to the general public.

“Today, we are here to celebrate Chicago’s place as a leader in the creation and development of toys and games – showcasing the creativity and ingenuity of our local business community,” said Mayor Daley. “Here at the Fair, we see large companies like Hasbro to local small businesses like Neat –Oh, prospering and sharing their creations with the world. We also have toys and game as well as their inventors from all over the world.”

The Chicago Toy and Game Fair attracts local and international toy companies and serves to highlight the role games and toys play in the learning and personal development of people of all ages. The event also showcases inventors and designers as well as the manufacturers that provide the opportunity to play.

Chicago has a long and rich history with the toy and game industry.

Last night, the TAGIE Awards, the toy industry’s highest honors, Chicago native Eddy Goldfarb was recognized for Lifetime Achievement. Together with business partner Marvin Glass, Goldfarb created more than 600 licensed products around the world. The partnership evolved into a toy and game inventing hub that has established itself as the first stop for toy companies looking to license new products.

“I encourage people to take advantage of all that the Fair has to offer - opportunities to come to learn and explore, and to mingle and participate in a wonderful community event - but most of all, come to have fun” said Mayor Daley.
