Mayor Emanuel Announces Changes to Board of City Colleges

Martin Cabrera to Chair Plan Commission, Paula Wolff to Lead CCC Board

CHICAGO – Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced today that he is nominating Martin Cabrera Jr., current chairman of the City Colleges of Chicago Board of Trustees, as the chairman of the Chicago Plan Commission and recommending that City Colleges board member Paula Wolff replace him as chairman.

“Civic and community leaders like Martin and Paula continue to step forward to offer their time and expertise to help shape the future of our city,” said Mayor Emanuel.  “I am confident in their leadership abilities and look forward to their contributions to the Chicago Plan Commission and the City Colleges of Chicago.”

Martin Cabrera Jr. is Chief Executive Officer and founder Cabrera Capital Markets, LLC.   Cabrera Capital Markets is one of the leading Hispanic investment banks and institutional brokerage firms in the nation. Cabrera recently founded a second investment management firm, Cabrera Capital Partners LLC, a hedge fund of funds that offer strategies to preserve client assets.

Cabrera also participates in numerous civic activities, including sponsorship of the Stock Market Game™, a nationwide program that teaches financial literacy and the operations of the capital markets to students in grades 4-12. More than 60,000 students in Illinois, Pennsylvania, New York, Detroit, Houston and San Antonio participate in the program.  Cabrera also serves on the Public Building Commission and Board of Trustees for the Museum of Science and Industry.

 

Paula Wolff

Paula Wolff is Senior Executive at Metropolis Strategies, a business and civic organization affiliated with the Chicago Community Trust that is focused on implementing policy initiatives and programs for regional action on issues including land use, transportation, criminal justice and economic growth.

Between 1992 and 2000, Wolff served as President of Governors State University. In August 2009, Wolff was named Chairman of the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority. She also serves on numerous other boards including the Joyce Foundation, the Ariel Investments Board, the Metropolitan Planning Council, the Johnson Foundation, the University of Chicago Medical Center (Chair 1996 – 2006) and the University of Chicago Board of Trustees.
