Statement from Mayor Emanuel on Death of Philip Corboy

Mayor's Press Office    312.744.3334

Chicago has truly lost one of its most outstanding citizens and a giant in the legal community.  For decades, Philip Corboy was one of our country’s most prominent and influential attorneys, and a pillar in Chicago’s legal community.  Throughout his long career, Phil’s commitment to seeking justice for the people he represented and public service never wavered and it was always his guiding principle.

Phil will be remembered for his leadership in the legal community, including his work as president of the Chicago Bar Association and president of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association. Most of all, he will be remembered the example he set in ensuring that those who had been victims of injury and injustice would have their voices heard.  On behalf of the people of Chicago, I would like to express my sincere condolences to his wife, Mary Dempsey, and to the entire Corboy family.
