Mayor Emanuel met with the Mayor Dragan Đilas of Belgrade. The two mayors discussed their ongoing commitment to promote shared interest as the Mayors of sister cities.
“Chicago and Belgrade have formed a strong cultural and economic relationship in recent years,” said Mayor Emanuel. “Greater collaboration and a commitment to continued dialogue will serve our two cities well, now and for the future,” said Mayor Rahm Emanuel.
Mayor Đilas will meet with local business leaders to strengthen business relations between Chicago and Belgrade. Belgrade is one of the largest economic centers in Southeastern Europe, where it continues to grow as an international center for finance, tourism and technology.
This is Mayor Đilas’ second visit to Chicago. In 2009, the sister cities exchanged ideas on city service programs and established a foreign exchange program for Chicago Public School students at Ogden International School.
Chicago continues its commitment to building relations with the international community. In recent months, Mayor Emanuel has welcomed other sister city delegations from Galway, Ireland; Gothenburg, Sweden; Athens, Greece; Casablanca, Morocco; Warsaw, Poland and Toronto, Canada.
