Today, Mayor Emanuel welcomed Gillian Walnes MBE, Director of the Anne Frank Trust UK, to Chicago to sign the Anne Frank Declaration. The Mayor joins former President Bill Clinton, former United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan, the late South African President Nelson Mandela and thousands of others who have signed the personal pledge of support to fight prejudice and hatred.

“Anne Frank’s experience was a triumph of the human spirit and by learning about her life, we can help people, especially our youth, reject all forms of prejudice, discrimination and hatred in our communities,” said Mayor Rahm Emanuel.

Since its publication in 1947, Anne Frank’s Diary has personally impacted millions of people worldwide. The Anne Frank Trust draws on the power of Anne Frank’s life and diary to challenge prejudice, reduce hatred and promote positive approaches in communities across the world. Founded in 1990, the Anne Frank Trust UK uses the life of Anne Frank as an inspirational message and anchor to educate people about damage caused by all forms of prejudice and discrimination.
