RESIDENTS ARE REMINDED OF TRAFFIC IMPACTS AND SECURITY AS WEEKEND EVENTS CONTINUE THROUGHOUT THE CITY

 

Bud Billiken Parade, Wrigley Field, Northerly Island concerts, festivals in Chicago

 

 

As summer and fall events begin to mingle, the Office of Emergency Management and Communications (OEMC) reminds the public of street closures, parking restrictions, crowds and security measures in place for the back-to-school season with the Bud Billiken Parade and many festivals and concerts happening in the city. OEMC stresses the importance of being aware of surroundings at all times – especially in crowds - and to report suspicious activity.

Wrigley Field Concerts: Billy Joel on Friday, August 11 - 8 p.m. & Florida Georgia Line/Backstreet Boys on Saturday, August 12 - 7 p.m.

Billy Joel returns to Wrigley Field on Friday and the Florida Georgia Line concert, including the Backstreet Boys, will be at Wrigley Field on Saturday. Night parking restrictions are in effect for the events and will be strictly enforced. If your vehicle is towed, call 311 City Services to obtain assistance in locating your vehicle.


• Fans are encouraged to arrive early to allow time for the security measures – including metal detector screenings and bag searches in compliance with policies.


• Fans are encouraged to enter the ballpark through the gate listed on their tickets.


• Motorists in the area should be prepared for traffic slowdowns adjacent to the venue, which will be implemented by public safety officials should conditions warrant.


• Street closures in the area may be implemented to ensure the public safety.


• Ride Share Drop off/Pick up designations are located at:


     I) From North: Irving Park between Clark and Seminary


     II)From South: Clark, south of Roscoe, facing southbound, west side of 3300 block

Bud Billiken Parade Saturday, August 12 - 10 a.m.


The 88th annual Bud Billiken Parade steps off at 10 a.m. on Saturday, with Chance the Rapper as Grand Marshall “Honoring our Hometown Heroes”.


• The parade route begins at King Drive at Oakwood Blvd. and proceeds south from Oakwood to 51st Street to Ellsworth Drive (Inside Washington Park from 51st to Garfield Blvd (55th St.) for conclusion and activities following parade.

NorthHalsted Market Days, Saturday, August 12 - 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.


Northhalsted Market Days in the Boystown neighborhood on north Halsted between Belmont and Addison attracts large crowds for this popular street festival. Those in the area should be aware of the crowds and street closures.


• Expect street closures on Halsted, Melrose, Aldine and Buckingham for the event set up, festival and clean-up.

Residents and motorists should also be aware of the many other events in the city this weekend including Nickelback concert at Northerly Island on Saturday at 7 p.m.; Retro on Roscoe on Friday through Sunday at Damen; Chicago 10K at Grant Park/Arvey Field on Sunday and the Sox Kansas City series at Guaranteed Rate Field Friday through Sunday.
