The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) announced that, as part of the larger reconstruction of Western Avenue, traffic on Western at the bridge over the Chicago River will be reduced to one lane from 9pm on Friday, August 5 until 8am on Saturday, August 6, so that a new bridge deck can be poured. There will be flaggers on site to assist traffic on the bridge.

Then, beginning on Monday, August 8 through mid-November, Phase Two of the Western/Belmont/Clybourn reconstruction project will begin. During that time, Belmont Avenue will be restricted to a single through-lane EB and WB. Left turns (across traffic) from Belmont onto Western Avenue will be prohibited. Road configurations will change approximately seven times and the second phase is expected to last 12 – 16 weeks.

During the first stage of the intersection work, the bus stops on Belmont at Western will not need to be relocated.

The overall project is still on schedule and CDOT anticipates reopening a second lane of traffic on Western Ave. this fall.
