Nine Chicago Park District green space projects will be supported through the sales of 17 parcels of vacant City land under a plan approved today by City Council.

Twelve of the lots will be used to create five new playlot parks. Two will be constructed in Chicago Lawn and the rest in South Deering, Roseland and West Pullman. The playlots, ranging in size from .07 to.45 acres, will feature climbing equipment, landscaping and fencing. The locations include:

• 6049 S. Whipple Ave.
• 7208 S. Maplewood Ave.
• 134-42 W. 119th St.
• 10108-14 S. Exchange Ave.
• 658 E. 95th St.

Five of the lots will be used to expand four existing playlot parks in North Lawndale. To be expanded by approximately .10 acres each, the parks include:

• Millard Park, 1331 S. Millard Ave.
• Ninebark Park, 1447 S. Harding Ave.
• Christiana Park, 1533 S. Christina Ave.
• London Park, 3440 W. 18th St.

The properties were acquired by the City mostly through property tax liens and would be sold for $1 each.

The improvements are part of Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s Chicago Plays! initiative to improve parks throughout the City. The work will be financed entirely by the Park District and be completed over the next two years.
