60th/Western TIF

Designation: 1996    Expiration: 2020

The 60th/Western TIF district was created for two main purposes: to create new retail opportunities and to reinforce the area's industrial base. The district's retail priorities include making Western Avenue between 59th and 63rd streets a top shopping destination for residents of Chicago Lawn and adjacent communities. The district's industrial objectives include the redevelopment of select properties along a railroad right-of-way that was abandoned in 1982. Increment from the 150-acre district will also provide funds for site assembly assistance, environmental remediation, infrastructure work, street construction, utilities and landscaping improvements.
