DPS offers 19 free workshops presented quarterly to educate citizens and business owners about the fundamentals of procurement and the latest developments in procurement and certification.

City of Chicago Procurement Fundamentals

October 4, 2017  2:00pm to 3:00pm

121 N. LaSalle, Bid & Bond, Room 103

Are you interested in the procurement process, but unsure where to begin? This popular workshop will cover the laws, which govern the procurement process, including the Municipal Purchasing Act and Municipal Code of Chicago. Come learn about policies, rules and regulations, such as the Special Conditions Regarding M/W/DBE Participation and Economic Disclosure Statements before you start the bidding process.

 

Doing Business with Sister Agencies: Chicago Park District (CPD) & Chicago Transit Authority (CTA)

Want to learn about contracting opportunities beyond the City of Chicago? This workshop is designed to outline the role and responsibilities of how to do business with the City of Chicago's six sister agencies: Chicago Public Schools (CPS), City Colleges of Chicago (CCC), Public Building Commission (PBC), Chicago Housing Authority (CHA), Chicago Park District (CPD) and Chicago Transit Authority (CTA). Please note the guest speakers for each session.

How to Navigate the DPS Website

The DPS website is the best place to find a wealth of resources relating to City procurement. This workshop will take you through all the resources that are available and how to find them. Learn how to locate upcoming opportunities, bid tabulations, information about awarded contracts and how to identify prime and M/W/DBE subcontractors. The DPS website is your source for all procurement, certification and compliance rules and regulations. You will also learn about the City auctions, upcoming outreach events, additional workshops and how to stay informed of all the latest news and updates.

 

Your Business is Certified: Now What?

This workshop will provide valuable information to newly certified firms on how to compete for City contracts as well as providing information on resources available to firms. Are you prepared to meet with prime contractors? Have you considered joint venturing on contracting opportunities? Are you attending pertinent networking events? Come hear advice from subject matter experts.

 

Introduction to eProcurement

October 19, 2017   2:30pm to 3:30pm

DPS is embarking on the next phase of start-to-finish purchasing modernization via the implementation of a comprehensive eProcurement system. Come learn about the new technology that is will be used to expedite the contracting and payment processes. Learn about iSupplier registration, how vendors will submit bids and proposals online and how to view contracts and payments.

 

How to Become Certified

This workshop will provide information on who is qualified to be certified as a Minority or Women-Owned, or Disadvantaged Business Enterprise. DPS is the certifying agency for the following certifications: Minority-Owned Business Enterprise (MBE), Women-Owned Business Enterprise (WBE), Business Enterprise for People with Disabilities (BEPD), Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) and Airport Concessions Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (ACDBE). Learn out what documents are needed when submitting an application and how to avoid the most common mistakes in the certification process.

 

Doing Business with the City of Chicago

This workshop is designed to outline the role and responsibility of the Department of Procurement Services in the City's purchasing process. Come learn about different procurement methods, such as: Small Orders, Competitive Bids, Request for Proposals (RFP), Request for Qualifications (RFQ), and Job Order Contracts (JOC). Learn about your responsibilities after you win a contract with the City of Chicago.
