Healthcare Eligibility Problems

January 12, 2017

The City’s healthcare vendors reported a technical error to the City’s Benefits Division and are working to correct the error. Employee insurance plans remain active, and there should be no issues accessing coverage once the issue is resolved.

An employee whose coverage is affected should first call Blue Cross Blue Shield.

If Blue Cross Blue Shield is unable to provide assistance, employees should then contact their Department’s Benefits Liaison.

PRINT AN ID CARD
Approximately 24 hours after Blue Cross coverage has been corrected, employees can go online to the Blue Cross Blue Shield website and print an ID card:

  1. You’ll need your group number and your Blue Cross Blue Shield ID number (this is not your City employee ID number). Call Blue Cross Blue Shield at 1-800-772-6895 to get the numbers you need.
  2. Log into bcbsil.com/cityofchicago
  3. On the right side of the screen, log into Blue Access for Members. If you have not registered before, click the Register Now button and use your group and ID numbers to complete the registration and create a user name and password.
  4. You should now be logged into Blue Access for Members
  5. Go to Quick Links on the left side and click “Print a Temporary ID card”. This will create your Blue Cross Blue Shield ID card which you can now print.
