Statement from Mayor Rahm Emanuel on Chicago’s Designation as a Manufacturing Community by the U.S. Department of Commerce

Mayor's Press Office    312.744.3334

“Today’s designation of Chicago as a Manufacturing Community, eligible for up to $1.3 billion in funds from 11 federal agencies, is a direct result of our work to bring the Digital Manufacturing Lab to Chicago, our investments in College to Career manufacturing training programs, and our success in attracting new manufacturers and jobs to Chicago. This designation by the U.S. Department of Commerce through its Investing in Manufacturing Communities Partnership program ensures Chicago’s place as a leader in advanced manufacturing. I applaud the efforts of our partners at the Cook County Bureau of Economic Development to attain this designation, World Business Chicago and my economic development team in their ongoing work to expand manufacturing and increase exports across the region.”
