Make Way for People Bike Tour on June 15th

June 6, 2013

Hit the streets!  Rediscover the streets of Chicago by joining a bike ride to see People Place locations under the rapidly expanding Make way for People Program.

The Make for People initiative enables communities to open up public ways such as streets, parking spots, plazas and alleys for programming that promotes safer and more walkable communities while encouraging economic development in Chicago neighborhoods.  People Places consist of temporary seating, landscaping, programming and other amenities to create public space.

See and be seen riding your bike and kicking back!  Participants will be led on one of two available tours to visit a growing network of People Places throughout Chicago.

Both will depart from in front of the McDonald’s Cycle Center in Millennium Park and will diverge, culminating in Andersonville and Bronzeville, respectively – participants will be assigned at random unless there is a strong preference for one or the other.

When you reach your People Place locations you will be greeted by a host of activities including bike themed yoga stretches, jazz performances, a tour of the Little Black Pearl Arts Center and food!

Bike and helmet rental is available at the McDonald’s Cycle Center.  Tour leaders will not provide helmets.  Please bring a bike lock as we will be parking our bikes while we enjoy the People Places.  Space is limited for both tours and preferences for either tour will be accommodated as availability allows.

Date:  Saturday, June 15, 2013 9:30 am - 12 pm

Location:  Both tours will depart from Spontaneous Interventions Pavilion - Millennium Park
