Kinzie Avenue Bridge Over Chicago River Temporarily Closed For Regularly Scheduled Painting

October 18, 2013

The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) will close the Kinzie Avenue Bridge over the North Branch of the Chicago River at 10 p.m. tonight in order to repaint the historic structure.  The bridge is expected to re-open by 6 a.m. on Monday, October 21.

Automobile and bicycle traffic will detour around the bridge to Grand Avenue via Franklin Street and Des Plaines Street.  The north sidewalk will remain open for pedestrians.  CTA buses do not travel over the bridge and are not impacted by the closure.

The historic single-leaf bascule bridge was originally built in 1909, and was rehabilitated in 1999.
