The Department of Water Management, Bureau of Engineering Services, Water Design Section, hereafter referenced as the “Water Design Section”, has compiled the following information to assist in the design and construction of new water mains and services within the City of Chicago.

The information is presented in a condensed format to provide a general overview of Water Design Section design and construction standards. Since these standards are subject to periodic revision, and not inclusive of all design and construction standards, projects should be coordinated with the Water Design Section as early in the project design process as possible to avoid delays in the review and approval of permit submittals.
