Fleet of Trucks Deliver Concrete to Build Street Deck on Corner of Monroe and Wacker Drive

April 23, 2012

More than 100 trucks delivered 1,000 cubic yards of concrete today to north-south Wacker Drive in order to pour a deck on for the Monroe Street intersection as part of the Revive Wacker Drive, Part 2 reconstruction project.

“North-South Wacker Drive was originally built in 1955, and is in need of a complete reconstruction,” said Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) Commissioner Gabe Klein. “Revive Wacker Drive, Part 2 will modernize the upper and lower levels of Wacker Drive by creating safer, more efficient roadways for motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists.”

The improvements include wider roadways, a new ramp from the upper to lower level at Monroe Street and a new left-turn lane for northbound Wacker Drive at Randolph Street. Modernizing Wacker Drive will improve safety, reduce travel times and enhance aesthetics for drivers and pedestrians.

The $300 million Revive Wacker Drive, Part 2  project continues to progress on time and on budget, Klein said.  The project is funded through the state’s $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! capital program.
