Mayor Daley today introduced an ordinance that would expand and renovate park space in the Near North Side.

The project will use Open Space Impact Fees (OSIF) to complete environmental work at 24th and Federal Park, located at 2400 S. Dearborn in the Near South Side Community Area.

"This proposal furthers our goal to add additional parkland in neighborhoods across Chicago," said Mayor Richard M. Daley.  "This illustrates the city's commitment to creating and enhancing open space to benefit all our residents."

As part of the CitySpace Plan, to provide additional green space to underserved Chicago neighborhoods, 4.2 acres of park land has been assembled for the new park site adjacent to the Harold Ickes Homes.

Following the completion of environmental work at the site, construction will begin on a new athletic field for baseball and soccer and a new playground.

Approximately $100,000 in OSIF will be used for the environmental review and remediation at the new park site.  After construction has been completed, the park will be maintained by the Chicago Park District.
